KATHMANDU: Renowned neurosurgeon Dr Upendra Devkota, who was suffering from Bile Duct Cancer (Cholangiocarcinoma), passed away at Neuro Hospital in Bansbari, yesterday evening. He was 64.

Dr Devkota passed away around 5:35 pm, according to the hospital source.

His mortal remains will be kept at the premises of the hospital from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm today for final tributes. Friends and well-wishers have gathered at the hospital to pay tribute to Dr Devkota and express condolence to his family.

Likewise, President Bidya Devi Bhandari has extended condolences to Dr Devkota’s family. President Bhandari’s Chief Personal Secretary, Bheshraj Adhikari, visited the hospital today and conveyed President Bhandari’s condolence message to Dr Devkota’s spouse and daughters.

In the message, the President expressed deep sorrow on Dr Devkota’s demise, saying it had caused irreparable loss to the country’s health sector.

Dr Devkota’s body will be taken to Pashupati Aryaghat from the hospital via Narayan Gopal Chok to carry out his final rites.
