Freshly appointed envoys take oath of office


KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari today administered oath of office and secrecy to newly appointed ambassadors amid a ceremony at her official residence, Sheetal Niwas.

Nepal’s new ambassador to Israel Anjan Shakya, Permanent Representative to the United Nations, New York Amrit Bahadur Rai and Permanent Representative to United Nations, Geneva Mani Prasad Bhattarai took oath of office from President Bhandari.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali and other high-ranking officials of Nepal were present at the event.

Prior to this, the President has administered oath to Ambassador of Nepal to India, Nilambar Acharya, on February 4, making him the first Nepali ambassador to take the oath from a President. The new provision for ambassadors to take oath from the President was approved on the same day.
